Outpatient Surgery

Patient Care

At SMDC Medical Center, our patient care begins before you walk into our hospital for outpatient surgery. We make every effort to accommodate your schedule and other needs, such as transportation and post-op help at home.

A few days before your surgery, you will be called by a Registered Nurse from our Pre-OP Assessment Department who will review your medical records, give you information on preparing for surgery and answer any questions.

Once you arrive, our staff will keep you and your family informed on any pre-op procedures as well as any schedule changes.

Family members can track you as you progress through the surgical area by using a computer in our waiting room. Using a special number, they can see when you have left pre-op, the operating room and recovery. Your family also receives a pager that will notify them to return to the waiting room to talk with your doctor after surgery. Our staff prides itself on consistently communicating with patients and families.

Our care doesn’t end when you leave SMDC Medical Center after same-day surgery. You will receive a call from a nurse the day after your surgery to check on your recovery. Feel free to ask questions and report any concerns you may have. You can also call a nurse at (218) 786-4020 any time or call your surgeon’s office.
